Titled after popular self-help books, these works explore our emotional relationship to food and the notion of romantic love as simultaneously seductive, intoxicating and hard to swallow. Borrowing from the aesthetic of advertising, Nadège Mériau combines mouth watering ingredients with domestic products and building materials - synthetic sponge, sand paper, concrete - in this series of glossy photographs. By juxtaposing contrasting textures, the artist does not only ‘play with food’, but also ignites our senses and questions traditional perceptions of the edible.
