Home Futures: an exploration of the Aylesbury Estate through video and sculpture.

Nadege Meriau, a visual artist working collaboratively with Dr Richard Baxter, will discuss her work that responds to a research project on the Aylesbury Estate developed during a residency at QMUL and The Centre for Studies for Home. A video piece made during the residency explores the utopian aspects of modernist estate architecture, and how this translated on the estate, through the metaphor of the beehive. A sculpture, which is still in development, will take the form of a circular dwelling made out of papier-mâché bricks. Potentially built by residents during an exhibition at the Geffrye Museum in 2016, it will respond to ideas of alternative domestic inhabitation, community building and futures made and unmade.
